Metal For Tots: Local Musicians To Donate To Those Less Fortunate
December 2, 2008Four metal bands are partnering with Dingbatz nightclub to help needy children in New Jersey have a happy holiday this year by hosting a toy drive later this month. The toy drive will be part of a show on Friday, December 19 that features metal bands BLED FOR GLORY, PAINFUL URINATION, WILL KILLMORE and FACING THE SUN.
Dingbatz is located at 620 Van Houten Avenue in Clifton, New Jersey. Doors open at 9 p.m. and the show is a 21-and-over event.
Those attending the show are asked to bring one new, unwrapped toy for the donation. The normal cover charge of $10 will be waived to anyone participating in the drive.
"It's always great when you get a chance to help others doing something you love," said Vinnie Rossi, drummer for BLED FOR GLORY. "We wanted to play a show around the holidays and do something to help those in need. The toy drive seemed like a natural fit."
"We are getting a lot more requests for toys this year so any events like this are a huge help," said 1st Sgt. Kevin MacCheyne, the New Jersey contact for Toys for Tots. "Our organization is donation-based so without people donating to this cause, we wouldn't exist."
Dingbatz, a fixture in the Northern New Jersey underground music scene, is no stranger to holding charitable events. In the past year, there have been a number of shows raising money for causes from charities to individuals in need of financial help for medical treatment.
"A lot of credit has to go to the bands that play here," said Freddie Dingo, proprietor of Dingbatz. "They bring these great ideas to us and we're always more than happy to help them out and support their cause. It gives us the opportunity to give back to the community."
